Khadi
Khadi is the name of a woven cloth which is entirely manufactured by hand and mainly manufactured in rural areas of India. The home spun and hand woven fabric can be produced from cotton, silk or wool.Khadi has a sentimental value for Indians as it is often associated with Mahatma Gandhi. Because of his appeal to Indians to wear Khadi garments. Mahatma Gandhi began promoting the spinning of Khadi for rural self employment and self reliance in 1920s.The freedom struggle revolved investment in the local economy by promoting the use of Khadi fabrics and a rejection of foreign imported clothing.Khadi is often woven in the remote rural areas where there is no electricity and so all of the manufacturing processes are done by hand. The small weaving errors give it the particular Khadi charm. The production of Khadi cloth is fitted in with the regular farm work and often provides the so much needed extra little bit of income for the farmers. 
During the spinning of Khadi the threads are interwoven in such a manner that it allows the air to circulate within the fabric. This unique property provides warmth in winter season and is cooling in summer. Khadi cotton is used to produce a variety of garments including; kurtha, shirts, skirts, western tops, salwar suits etc.Khadi silks are used in the manufacture of shirts, saris, dupattas, salwar kameez, kurtha pajama etc. Khadi silk is sometimes mixed with cotton and also used to produce various types of garments.
